Child Care

I will pursue funding in the state budget to ensure accessible, affordable, high quality child care and early childhood education.

Women hold 49.5% of all payroll jobs.  When I worked as a jobs and employment counselor, I heard stories every day from single moms who could not apply for full-time positions or jobs located too far from home because of the high cost and inaccessibility of high-quality child care. I helped many job seekers secure subsidized child care so that they can spend time getting the skills and job experience they need to obtain a good job.

California has expanded Transitional Kindergarten for four-year-olds and made other investments in recent years to increase child care subsidies, but the need for affordable child care so exceeds the available slots that more effort is needed to close these gaps.
